Trying to find out what this one movie is and i think William Devane plays a bad guy in it, help ?

This movie i'm thinking of i saw it when i was really young back in
the 80s and the guy William Devane who is well known for his Knott's
Landing role as "Greg" i believe was a bad guy in this movie i'm
thinking of. The movie had to of came out in the 1980s or early 90s,
possibly the 70s. From what i remember in the movie part of it takes
place inside a grocery store and the bad guy looks like William Devane
at least from what i remember the guy looked like him it might not be
Devane though and this bad guy was chasing after someone in the
grocery store i remember seeing him going down the aisle where the pan
cake cyrups were and then his victim he caught em and took some cell
o phane wrap or however you spell it.... in the store and covered the
guys face with it, to try to suffocate his victim... those are all
the little details i can remember and i was probably about 5 or 6 when
i saw this...... what could this movie be ?
